Αναγνώστριες αμέτρητες… Οι αναγνώστες σε έλλειψη. Η ομορφιά πάντα ήταν της γυναίκας, η αφήγησή της: του άντρα καημός και έκφραση. Η γοητεία του πνεύματος επιζητεί τη γοητεία του σώματος. Το αρσενικό αγναντεύει και ονειροπολεί, εστιάζει και φαντασιώνεται. «Το βιβλίο να κλείσει, η αναγνώστρια να γίνει δική του». Να χαθούν στα ξεφυλλίσματα του έρωτα, στα αγγίγματα της αγάπης. Να ξανανοίξει το βιβλίο στο ημέρωμα του πόθου, οι σελίδες τότε να ανοίξουν κι άλλους δρόμους. Τότε θα δημιουργηθούν νέοι τόποι μυθοπλασίας, καινούργιοι καιροί θα κάνουν την εμφάνισή τους. Ο οίστρος θα μεταναστεύσει από της τέχνης τα σχεδιάσματα και θα αποικίσει την προσωπική αναζήτηση. Ποιος δεν θέλει να βρίσκεται σε έκσταση; Ποιος δεν επιθυμεί διακαώς να καίγεται από του πόθου τις φλόγες;

Titivillus is often referred to with the title of «The Patron Demon of Scribes». As with all of us, minds can wander from time to time and the monks were no exception. When this happened, errors would be introduced into the text. No one likes to take credit for his own mistakes, and true to human nature the monks invented Titivillus. He was invented somewhat in jest by them, both to take the blame for their mistakes and as a warning to the hapless monk whose mind strayed from the task.
